Frac Sand for Vista Energy Argentina

Vista Energy is the fastest-growing pure-play Vaca Muerta operator, with acreage concentrated in Bajada del Palo Oeste, Bajada del Palo Este, Águila Mora and Aguada Federal. The company's public filings disclose one of the highest completion densities per rig in the basin. Every one of those wells runs API 19C frac sand. In-Basin Sand delivers from 30 km away — a freight position no other regional producer currently matches.

Vista acreage and the Malargüe line

Vista's core blocks sit in the Central and Southern Vaca Muerta corridors, all trucked through the Añelo–Neuquén logistics spine. Per Argentine Oil Secretariat public data, Vista drilled and completed dozens of horizontal wells in 2024 and 2025. Every horizontal in unconventional shale demands tens of millions of pounds of proppant over its life. In-Basin Sand at Malargüe closes that freight gap.

Specification fit

Vista's service companies work to API 19C. In-Basin Sand produces +30/+70 (the predominant proppant cut for unconventional liquids-rich Vaca Muerta shale) and -70/+140 (for fine-matrix placement). Both cuts are validated through SGS Minerals (Chile) attrition and granulometry testing.

Commercial readiness

The plant holds 15,000 t/month at steady-state capacity, with a 37+ year mine life at that throughput. That is enough to support a rolling pad program or a dedicated supply carve-out within a larger multi-source strategy.

Why Vista should diversify proppant origin

Vista's investor communications highlight cost-per-foot reduction as a central KPI. Freight accounts for a large share of per-well proppant cost when sand originates 1,400 km away. Shortening the freight leg by 97% flows directly into per-foot economics without changing the frac design.

Next step

Technical specs, SGS reports and mine documentation are available under NDA. The commercial desk can quote FCA-Malargüe, DDP-Añelo, or indexed structures (diesel-linked) as appropriate.
